The Server Active Host name option Active Engine Not in Developer Server

Added by Jerry Schromm 11 months ago

I just watched that video on the server. He got the world up and running fast. I was impressed. So I put
those ports in my developer server but I don't get the Host name option and Active Engine and all that
to serve my world.

Is this because it is the Developer Server? And it really doesn't work? I will have to buy one that is functional?
And to get the License key to it is another question. I would like to just get a basic world up and running
and my girlfriend could log in just to accomplish something. It will build some confidence in this.

Let me know about this server if you can. Thank you

The developer server works as-is, you don't need to buy anything.

Which version are you using? Which worlds are you trying to host?

Hi Craig, I got the downloads from the 1.5 bleeding edge page. I didn't see any worlds to host as of yet. That would be nice to be able to load various worlds up to mess around with. I would like to do something like change some textures like I saw done on that tutorial. I would just need all the code. I can't read it on the tutorial. Maybe you have all the code of that nature in some documents that have labels like this code is for adding textures. And give me the process. I hope I can find that.

So that is the bleeding edge server. The 1.5.24 I think. It also fails to load the license it says. I could just put in the ports that was shown in that tutorial. I didn't have the options for Host Name and Active Engine to load up the world. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

This server says for 10 people. That would be fine for me to build a world and just have my girlfriend come in so that is all I need for now for a private world. Could I put one up on my website if I have it dialed in and would I have some sort of page so the few people I want to login could find it? And nobody else could? I have to find out about all of it. Anyway once I do it will be great. If I could have a copy of your warehouse later to manipulate that would be nice. Or I would buy one from you. Anyway let me know if I have the right server. And if I can get that key for it. Thanks

OK this is good, correct version

It also fails to load the license it says.

This is ok, it's looking to see if you have a license for more than 10 concurrent users which is what the free version includes. It just means that you are limited to 10 concurrent users for now.

Yes you can put these links up on a place of your choosing, if you make the links vp:// instead of http:// the Player will open when you click them.

And nobody else could?

You can password protect specific worlds using the method described here: http://vastpark.org/projects/vp/wiki/VastPark_Server#ACL

I just turned on the world server. It lets change the root directory, IP, and Ports. Then it is complete. It doesn't go on as it does in your Server 66 video tutorial where you show the Host Name page, Active Host Engines. So I can't set up those folders called Client and Server. And load up a world as you do. Am I doing something wrong?

It sounds like you may be looking at an older video for a previous version of the server, the UI has changed slightly. Try following along from this link

You basically need to pay attention to the hosting root directory's structure, take a look at this thread here, there are some screenshots showing the structure.

The Configuration Wizard just allows you to do is put the Hosting Root in, the type of connection in my case Dynamic IP, and then the Port Configuration. Then it says it is complete. Nothing more. I know there is more to it and I check all the options on any other drop down and I can't find the functionality I need.

I can't find the part where you add all the other stuff like importing that IMML file. Creating those folders. I can't even find that server video I was watching now. I just found one with some bad music. In fact I will go and put up a new posting on the production of those videos. The ones with the bad music I wish just had Bruce or Craig's voice on them. The music is not teaching us. We want to hear them talking.

VastPark is very close to getting this rolling. I want all the SL people to say hey I will just create a VastPark world instead of paying big bucks for the SL land I buy. So far for me getting started isn't as easy as it should be since I think easy tutorials aren't accessible if they are there. I hope I can be of some help later with putting my talents to work with tutorial production. I will keep searching for my answers.

It's similar to apache or IIS, you make the folders yourself manually on disk and the server notices them and begins hosting the worlds for you. The important part is matching the expected structure.

Take notice during the configuration where your hosting folder is, I think it now defaults to C:\worldserver\root\

Open that folder in explorer and extract the attached zip into that folder so the structure then looks like:

<hostingroot>\clock\client\index.imml

Here's what mine looks like:

The WorldServer should then show a new entry in the listing like this:

You can then try to right-click the listing and select Open in Player to view that world.

Okay great. I didn't know it was something I did manually. So I right clicked on my green icon and put it in the player. Looks like a good clock. Though I try and check out the same http with the clock in a regular browser and it doesn't work. I see some code in Explorer. So I guess it is just meant for the player.

Now all I have to do is put an IMML with a world in it and serve that. My next step is to figure out how I would put that on my website lets say MetaMotel dotcom just an idea for a small world I have. I want to have my girlfriend log in with me in my world. I need to do more research on this. I know you don't have time to specifically run through it all with me here I doubt. Since you are a very busy man.

I also hope you guys create women avatars soon too so after I get this up and running my girlfriend can log in as a woman. I will try and search for more answers on your site. I know it is all very simple to get going it just takes some time to get familiar with it all. Thanks Jerry

I mentioned the Explorer above. I usually use Chrome. Then it is Firefox and my last resort is Explorer. Also if you have any of your own worlds I would like a link to it. Other than the current VastPark Warehouse and Headquarters. I would like to see other worlds and how they are set up. In fact there are probably many members with worlds. Maybe I can get a link to a couple of their projects somehow at some point.

Craig I have a quick question. I downloaded the Warehouse. I was thinking it might just be an IMML file but it is much more than that. It has three folders. Plugins, Client, Server, along with an XML named Settings and Stats and some Log files.

Is there a video on using all of these? I am thinking put the three folders where the clock is in the root. I will go try and research this a little now.
