A Call for Improved Tutorials

Added by Jerry Schromm 11 months ago

I just want to put a call in for better tutorials. Or maybe they are out there but I haven't discovered them. Some are very good. But I do hate the tutorials with the bad royalty free music on them. When I would much rather here Bruce, Craig, other Vastpark person just talk us through it. We need your voices telling us. Running through configuration with that horrible music doesn't do the trick. It is distracting. We want to hear your voices. No need for some perfectly written script with what you are doing.

I know once VastPark is a little more user friendly people will want to start building their own VastPark world instead of wasting money in other environments. I know this is all fairly easy to do. Put up a VastPark world and start building. But so far I haven't got it going yet. But I won't give up. If it takes me 6 months to find all the documentation I am needing I will do it.

So everyone that has knowledge about VastPark please produce a series of tutorials that show us everything we need to know. Plus give us documents. Like where you show how simple it is to add a texture to something inworld then add a text file with that code that we need to implement it. We can't read the blurry small print in a video.

Now I am off to finding the tutorials and documentation I need to accomplish this. I know the new version just came out and I think you guys will take a weekend to get the tutorials going. As extensive as you can do it. I will even pay 10 bucks for access to hours of recordings. I want hours and hours of video tutorials if possible. Whatever if costs for the downloads I will pay it. I am sure you don't care about profit with this aspect. You need to get the masses building these worlds. I hope someday I can help it all happen.

Hey Jerry, thanks for your interest in using VastPark.

We are currently in the process of updating our tutorials and are striving to make learning VastPark engaging and enjoyable experience for users. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will help us improve VastPark.

Can you please tell us what kind of tutorials you most want to see appear on our wiki?

Sincerely thanks,

Alec

Hi Alec, Thanks for replying to my posting,

I understand you are just getting the 1.5 VastPark going now and I know you are working on it. What I would like to see is everything I need to know in an outline to get my world up and running on my website. I would even pay for some tutorials to be honest if it means I will get a small world going. I would watch those tutorials over and over until I dialed it in. All the tutorials can come with documents also. I saw this tutorial the other day where he added a texture to that laptop. I would like that code in a document. Maybe you have libraries of documents I haven't found yet with all the scripts I am not sure.

Maybe I would scrap the idea about having the royalty free music in the background. I know it might seem easier to produce but believe me all the productions I heard with voices sound good I have heard on VastPark so far. The music doesn't help with learning anything. A person talking will help us to absorb it. Though I did turn the distracting music all the way down and it wasn't as bad.

Anyway I just want my world online soon. I need a virtual place to call my own and work on. Why waste my time in SecondLife when I can work on a VastPark world that is truly mine? Once I get familiar with how to build here it will start coming together in no time. If you guys can build that warehouse and headquarters using this building system then I know I can do it too. I can build in SL pretty well. Texturing. Building houses. I like building big warehouse type places also.

Also maybe you can make it easy for us all and create 5 worlds that already has some structures in it so we can have something to work with. Maybe some grass and a few trees. A sky. I wonder if we can animate the sky like I noticed Active Worlds has? That is one thing about that place I like is some of their beautiful skies. Though it is very unstable and there building isn't half as good as SL has.

At any rate I see with what you wrote that you know what you have to do. You want to make VastPark user friendly. After you simplify it with a great step by step outline and have all the documents and tutorials there for us you will have many people getting started soon. I know it is all around the corner now. This place is on the brink of success. I am surprised at how stable it feels. It doesn't crash on me at all.

Sounds good about making learning VastPark engaging and enjoyable. I like the IMML documents. It reminds me of HTML that I deal with all of the time. I wil become familiar with the documents in time I hope. Good luck. And I hope my requests don't feel negative in any way. When I type here it is all for constructive purposes and to express my opinion. I think VastPark is my best option.

Thanks a lot,
Jerry
