3dsMax Opacity > Collada

Added by Leigh Canny 7 months ago

I'm exporting models from 3dsMax into OpenCollada .DAE, but I don't know the method to export an opacity material.

I have added an opacity map in max's material editor but it doesn't seem to translate to a collada model in VastPark...

(I'm trying to achieve effects like the flora seen in the Beach-House world)

any ideas anyone?

Assuming you are using the creator. When importing the Collada file using the Collada Importer ensure that the "Alpha Mapped" Tick box is ticked.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Ian,
I am using the Creator, yes.

I tried ticking the "Alpha Mapped" tickbox when importing,
but I didn't get the result I wanted.

The object just appeared invisible when viewed from one side,
no transparency around the shape I was after...

Any other suggestions...

Currently Transparent Objects render as single sided in VastPark.

This can be worked around. The way to get around this is to duplicate the object and flip its face normal so that it's facing in the opposite direction from the original one, then combine the 2 objects and export it.

ok, that solves the single sided problem,
but I still have the problem of the shape.

I'm exporting a plane object from 3dsMax
with an opacity map cutting out the shape of the tree

It appears in Creator as a rectangle shaped plane,
not as the semi trqansparent tree shape I want

???

Ok, ensure you have the latest version of the creator. Currently its 1.5.50, download it here

The problem could lie with an old asset being cached.

Open options>General

Hit the "Clear Asset Cache" and "Clear Item Cache" and restart the creator. This should rectify the problem of old assets being used.
