Is vastparks compatible with linux based servers?

Added by ryan satterfield almost 2 years ago

Hi,
I am almost complete with my social network and I need to know if vastparks is compatible with linux based servers. I also have a few other questions which I will make seperate postings for. Thank you for any replies in advance and big thanks to Bruce for starting this project.

VastServer (the VastPark server software) can be run on Linux so long as you have Mono running.
We currently have a dependency on MS SQL, but it will be easy enough to separate. There's a couple of folk talking about doing that but if that's within your skillset then let us know and we can give you all the details. It should be a fairly minor job.

I'm very interested in helping with this project so please give me any info on the MS SQL project as you can. I've never migrated a program from MS SQL to MY SQL before, but I will give it my best shot.

Hi Ryan, I created an issue (#18) about this. Craig should update this issue within the next 2 days with the information to help you get started. Someone else, Gael, from a company called Pilot Systems is also interested in this. So you may wish to collaborate in some way or perhaps one of you will be quick to submit a patch.

I would like to collaborate with Gael, that is if she wishes to collaborate with me. This is an open source project so making Vast parks more widely available seems like it would be a team effort.

Hi Ryan,

We're doing some SVN reorganisation at the moment, I'll post here when it's completed

Craig,
I hope everything is going well with you. Have you finished your SVN reeorganisation? I will help out as much as I can with converting Vast park's MS SQL to My SQL. Please tell me what needs to be done and I will do what I can.

Hi Ryan,

Yes the SVN reorganisation is more or less complete. You can get the source from http://vastpark.svn.cvsdude.com/public/trunk

There is a sample project in trunk/src/Sample.Server/ you can use to develop against. Have a read here for information on what would need to be done to use a MySQL backend: http://www.vastpark.org/issues/show/18#note-1

Good luck!

Well I am diving into converting from MS SQL to MY SQL today. I had to take some downtime because my projects had gotten out of hand, but I have them under control now. I could really use some help with this conversion since i've never done anything like this before. Please let gael know that someone else is helping with the conversion and I would like to talk to her and see if she can help out too.
