VastPark demo worlds general questions
Added by the hung over 1 year ago
Hi all,
I am currently evaluating VastPark as one of the possible 3D Virtual World Platforms as part of my company R&D.
I would like to ask some questions about the demo worlds.
1) May I know which demo worlds are available?
I logged in using VastPlayer but could not access demo-lobby due to some exceptions.
The "Board Room" demo seemed the most functional demo world.
I also logged in to demo-mil_valley but it seemed only static 3D objects are there. (Maybe I do not know how to interact with the objects?)
2) Can you recommend to me which working demo world with the most features to explore ?
3) As mentioned in http://vastpark.org/wiki/vp/List_of_Plugins , is there a demo world with all or most of them for demonstrations?
4) From searching the forum, it seemed like we can only publish contents to Amazon S3 servers or FTP server.
Is there any easy way for me to publish contents in VastPark in a local server ?
I downloaded and installed the tools (VastPlayer, VastPublisher, VastCreator, VastServer).
For VastPublisher, it seemed only the publishing to Amazon S3 option is available.
Can you provide me with instructions to set up a FTP server for VastPark publishing ?
5) Is there a VastPark demo world available for download so that it can be run on a local machine without Internet?
6) My company is behind a proxy with user authentication. I followed the instructions from:
http://www.vastpark.org/wiki/vp/VastPark_applications_fail_to_connect_to_the_Webservice
but there are no option for username and password. Is there any ways to overcome this?
Currently, we need to use direct Internet connection (via a mobile dongle) to access VastPark demo.
7) Are there instructions to setup VastServer in Linux? Do we just need to install Mono? What about database configurations?
Thank you for your help.

Hi Hung,
We do not support local servers for publishing at this point in time, however you can set up your own FTP server for this purpose. The only requirement is that the content published there is publicly accessible.
As the proxy configuration XML has no specification for user authentication details, you will need to define them in Internet Explorer. VastPark software is configured to retrieve authentication details from your IE proxy settings.
We wish to advise that VastServer has not been tested under the Linux OS, but we would appreciate your feedback if you would like to set it up on Linux. Mono will need to be installed to compile the program. A database is not required to run VastServer - it can operate using a non persistent data source in memory. An SQL Compact data source is also included with VastServer, but you will need to provide your own library to make use of it.
I have attached two demo files with this post. Collaboration room is our most feature rich demo world. The zip contains both server and client imml files which you will need to host using VastServer. Simply unzip "hostingroot" to anywhere on disk and set the server to point to that directory.
meetingspace-packed.pimml is a demo world viewable without an internet connection.
If there is a specific plug-in you'd like to see in action, we'd be happy to provide a demo world with the requested features enabled.
I hope this information has been useful to you.
- Edit * Demo worlds attached
collaboration-room-public.zip - Demo world (89.8 kB)
meetingspace-packed.pimml - Portable offline world (2.2 MB)
