Our mission¶

VastPark's mission is to empower traditional Enterprises to become real-time, on-demand and cohesive Enterprises. We think of it as the 'Adaptive Enterprise".

You can use the VastPark platform for training and simulation projects, virtual meetings, data visualization and design problems, and even virtual operation centers and real-time Enterprise dashboards. We provide services and technologies including our Community of Practice, Virtual Worlds and Integration service platforms to lower the cost and sped up project development so your organization can achieve what it wants more quickly.

Enable your internal teams and external users to access your new virtual community and workspaces from wherever they are. The solution is flexible, offers 24/7 persistence & presence and can be designed to capture activity as a reusable resource which can be embedded in your other projects.

Saving travel, time and money is an important goal of becoming an Adaptive Enterprise, but so is making your business services on-demand. By becoming an on-demand set of business processes and resources, your internal and external users can get to what and who they need when they need them.

The Adaptive Enterprise is a long term vision but it has the promise of not only greater transparency, productivity and cost reductions, but also provides lifestyle choices of when to work, where to work, issues of the real world workplace not being the place where most people feel they get their work done, the Green challenge of reducing staff travel and therefore reducing time stuck in traffic, costs of travel, issues of lack of conference rooms, lack of multimedia projection systems, interpersonal office issues and so on that cause work to be known as "the daily grind". Moving towards becoming an Adaptive Enterprise can certainly save money and increase productivity, but anecdotal it can lead to greater enthusiasm and staff retention.

Platform development¶

Development teams extend VastPark via a standard plugin interface to create their own user experience, gaming, training or social collaboration solutions. VastPark is built on lightweight open data formats and the Enterprise SDK contains a series of distributed web services that are loosely coupled and highly extensible so that developers can create, integrate, secure and distribute new unique products that can be updated in real-time.

About VastPark¶

The VastPark platform is an open platform written in .Net enabling developers to create virtual worlds and virtual Enterprise software. The VastPark platform is created by VastPark, the company, which is located in the US, Singapore and with its core development center in Australia and with partners in Europe and the US.

Founded by Bruce Joy in 2007, VastPark is an elegant platform powered by several innovative lightweight specifications. It was developed by an R&D team that was first formed in the start of 2003 to create an open distributed multi-user operating system that featured immersive 3D multimedia experience. With 4 ground up rebuilds of the system under their belt, the VastPark team did their first commercial work on the platform in 2008. Since then the team have continued to improve the platform so that other developers can build off of it. A new rebuild has been underway since late 2009 and is due for release as Version 2 of the platform.

Problems our technology addresses:¶

Today, Enterprise teams, suppliers and clients are located around the world, separated by timezone and availability. There is a growing need to share a common workspace without the time and expense of travel.
Having a common workspace means being able to overcomes the barriers of time and distance and show the rest of the team your new product design in 3D just as if it was built and sitting in front of them.

How do we do it?¶

VastPark is a growing, profitable global group of companies. Our offering includes an open source core platform as well as a commercial platform featuring commercial plugins and other extensions. We also provide our Player software under a Firefox-like license so anyone can deploy it anywhere and use commercial and open source extensions.

The VastPark platform is a next generation distributed virtual worlds platform to help Enterprise, government and military agencies develop new capabilities that include real time Virtual Worlds and Communities of Practice. All that is needed is a client able to render our main XML specifications (IMML and Metaforik) so that users are able to participate in rich multi-user multimedia virtual and augmented reality environments.

We provide Enterprise solutions and a commercial SDK which offers outstanding flexibility. Enterprises in industries such as healthcare are realizing there is great value in building their own Communities of Practice where members of the community can collaborate and develop best practice models, share documents, join real time meetings remotely and experience rich multimedia simultaneously as well as use the social network aspects from their web browser anytime to communicate and learn asynchronously.

Commercial and open source developers can use VastPark's specifications, code and the platform contained on this site without royalty fees. Create your own collaborative virtual world sites, visualize data and users in real time and even augmented reality applications. VastPark uses a RESTful service orientated approach that enables you to more easily integrate the web and whatever else you like and offers a powerful model for metadata including new specifications for spatial description (IMML), meta-objects (Metaforik), interactive stream capture (Continuum) and spatial tagging (VastMark).
