VastPark Player Interface

Learning the Interface

If you have not yet opened the VastPark Player, you can find it inside or Start > Programs > VastPark > VastPark Player.
Take your time to look over the VastPark Player interface and familiarize yourself with it.

Now we'll look at each area in detail.

The key functions in the VastPark Player are available from the main menu located at the top of screen.

File

File > Open

Opens an IMML file from a local drive.

File > Save As

Allows you to save the virtual environment to an IMML file to a local drive.

File > Exit

Closes the VastPark Player.

View

View > Freelook Camera

Toggles the Freelook Camera. This can be done using F6 on your keyboard or pressing the camera icon in the Tray.

View > Fullscreen

Expands the 3D viewport to the whole screen. Pressing F11 on your keyboard will do the same thing.

View > Render >

WireFrame

Renders everything in the 3D viewport in wireframe.

Physics WireFrame

Renders a Physics Wireframe on any object in the scene which has physics enabled on it.

Status Output

Renders a Status Output in the top left of the 3D viewport.
The Staus Output displays:
  • Texture Memory Usage: The amount of texture memory the current environment is using.
  • Free Texture Memory: The amount of available texture memory on your computer.
  • Visible Triangles: The amount of visible triangles in the current environment.
  • Camera Position: Displays the current camera position.
  • Camera Rotation: Displays the current camera rotation.
  • FPS: The number of Frames Per Second the VastPark Player is running at.
  • And various other debugging outputs.

Capture

Capture > Start Continuum

Continuum is an IMML file that captures everything that occurs in an environment while you are recording.
Start Continuum will ask you to set a path on your computer and will start recording the Continuum file.

Capture > Stop Continuum

Stop Continuum will stop recording the Continuum file.

Capture > Screenshot

Captures a screenshot of your current view as a jpg image. The first time you select this option it will ask you to set a path on your computer to save the screenshots to.

Tools

Tools > Library

Opens up the Items Library. Pressing the folder icon in the Tray will do the same thing.

Tools > Chat

Opens up the Chat Window. Pressing the Chat Bubble icon in the Tray will do the same thing.

Tools > Clear Cache

Clears your cache of all downloaded VastPark Items. Note that you may need to restart the VastPark Player application before the cache is properly flushed.

Tools > Clear History

Clears your browsing history in the address bar.

Tools > Debug

Opens the debug dialog. Recommended for advance users only.

Tools > Options

Opens the VastPark Player Options Window.

Profile

Profile > Select Community

If you are a member of a number of VastPark Communities then you can switch between them in this Window.

Profile > Create Profile

If you do not have a VastID Profile when you first start the VastPark Player you can create one through this Window.

Profile > View Profile

Let you view your current VastID Profile information.

Profile > Logout

Logs you out of your current profile.

Help

Help > View Help

Displays the Help file for the current environment.

Help > About

Displays information about the current build of the VastPark Player installed on your computer

Address Bar

The Address bar contains buttons for the most important browser functions as well as the park address (URI) field.

Home Takes you back to the default home page.
Back Goes back in park history.
Forward Goes forward in park history.
Refresh Updates the current park from its server.
Profile Image Displays your profile image next to your alias. By default this displays the VastPark Logo.

Progress indicator

When a park loads, a progress indicator appears within the address field.

Tray

The tray is located at the bottom of the VastPark Player window. It displays the name of the Park specified in the IMML and also has three icons at the bottom right.

Chat Library Free Camera

Chat

When Chat is enabled in the IMML file click on the Chat Bubble icon to open up the chat window.
The top field lists who is online while the one below it shows the latest chat messages.
To type a message click on the text entry field at the bottom of the chat window, enter your message and press enter when finished.

Library

Some worlds allow you to dynamically add in content to interactive media screens located in the world.
When you click on the Folder Icon in the tray the Metaforik library opens and you can search for specific content.
If the world supports it you can simply drag the desired content item onto a media screen.

Free Camera

Free camera allows you to move the camera freely around the environment without being bounded to your avatars location.
To go into Free Camera you can click on the Camera Icon in the tray or press F6 on the keyboard.
To move the camera around press and hold the left mouse button. Then use the mouse to pivot the camera and the arrow keys to move forward, backward, left and right.
