Sketchup to Collada

Converting Sketchup Models

If you are working in Google Sketchup (http://sketchup.google.com/) and want to bring your models inworld, you will need to export them to Collada. Sketchup Exports directly to Collada so there is no need for additional plugins or 3rd party tools.

To start you need a model to export. I've quickly whipped up this castle wall and applied a standard material that comes with Sketchup.

When you're ready to export go File > Export > 3d Model and a Dialog window will appear that should look something like the image below.

By default Sketchup selects Collada as its default export file type. Select the directory you want to store you Collada file and hit Export.

There is also an options button located in the bottom right of the "Export Model" Dialog. The default settings will be fine on most occasions but if you experiencing any problems with your model you may want to edit these settings.
