Guide to converting CAD to Collada using PolyTrans¶

Required Software¶

PolyTrans is recommended for converting a CAD drawing to Collada.

Okino Polytrans can be purchased from here.

The Collada Exporter is part of the DCC/Pack, as such this will also need to be purchased. Depending on the files you will be using, you may also need to purchase the CAD/Pack. The two can be purchased together at a discount.

This guide assumes the use of a DWG file, which does require the CAD/Pack.

Process¶

Once PolyTrans and the required plugins are installed, follow the recommended settings listed below. These assume the user is importing a DWG file, and exporting a Collada file for use with the ColladaToIMML converter.

IMPORTING A DWG FILE¶

Import Options:
The object creation and material creation methods are set to layer. These are the recommended settings, and have received the most testing, however can be changed if required.

Resize Camera:
Selecting "Yes" is fine.

Depending on the complexity of the DWG file imported, the import process may take some time.

EXPORTING A COLLADA FILE¶

Once the import of the DWG file is complete, it's now just a matter of exporting to the Collada format.

The following are the suggested export settings for use with the ColladaToIMML converter.

Apply Global Transformation:
VastPark assumes input units in Meters. The scale adjustment to the General Transformation Matrix shown here is used to convert inches to Meters. If the source file is not working in inches, these values should be adjusted.

Example scale values:

Inches to Meters: 0.0254
Feet to Meters: 0.3048
Centimeters to Meters: 0.01

Dialogs not shown use the default settings.
