Business questions¶
Business FAQ¶
- Most answers can be found on our commercial website: http://www.vastpark.com
- For instance, find out about our Commercial SDK: http://www.vastpark.com/solutions/commercial-sdk.html
- Is VastPark free to use?
- The VastPark freeware and open source software is free and free of any royalty costs.
- Commercial solutions and solutions for Education are available that provide for the specific needs of that organization. There is also a Commercial SDK available that offers additional commercial components and features to suit high end developers. Prices for specific solutions are available to qualified prospective customers.
- How can I make money using the VastPark Platform
- You can create plugins, templates and content on the platform and license and sell these how you wish. People using the freeware version of the Player, commercial SDK derived versions of the Player and also 3rd party Players can all use your commercial and open source plugins freely according to your license. Open source forks of the Player may only use your plugin if you license it under the GPL or a GPL-compatible license such as the MIT open source license.
- You can deploy the freeware Player and provide a cloud based service for people to access your worlds without paying any royalty because the server is open source. You may also be interested in our commercial server which gives you more management, redundancy and security options. You can also use the OpenSim server with the VastPark plugin but this is untested for production purposes and may not have the scalability of the more specific servers built for running VastPark environments. Depending on your experience and skillset you can work out your best strategy for this.
- You can deploy any of our open source applications behind the firewall so long as you're not using non-GPL compliant plugins. For instance, we offer an avatar controller, a SIP plugin and many more that are useful but are only available for deployment as part of a commercial SDK. You can easily create your own plugins to suit your needs, but if you do so and deploy on the open source version you are required to open source those plugins.
